About the Smackdown

There can only be ONE.

In this tournament style competition, books face down each other until there is one winner. The Mighty Smackdown starts in December and will wrap up by June. With tons of fun and reading in between.

In this, our inaugural year, school teams commit to at least one round in the tournament. The teams will read two of the books and advance one. We read, vote and blog about our choices, until there is only one book left standing.  

At the end of the tournament, we will have one winning book and a big win for all those who directly participated in the Book Smackdown or who read along with us on our blog.

The entrance fee for joining the tournament is $200 per school. The fee will be used to purchase one copy of each of the 14 books in the tournament for the school’s library (if schools have the books in their collection already, we can discount the fee or replace with another great pick).
